The blogmaster is an idiot

Sam's itinerary for the last quarter of 2009 was packed, but he fell victim to the untimely loss of months of data due to a server failure at the blogmaster's mobile telephone provider. The times and dates of Sam's live, recorded, or filmed stand-up and improvisational comedy performances are being reconstructed from social networks, voice and email, printed materials, and handwritten notes. Any new stuff is posted as it is discovered.

The end-of-the-year for Sam included stand-up dates in Colorado, Wyoming, Nebraska, and Kansas. He performed game and long form improvisation with a number of groups at the Bovine Metropolis. Sam was interviewed and appeared several times in studio and on site for internet and terrestrial radio stations based in Denver and Vail. He acted in projects for Starz, The Shoot Out 24 Hour Filmmaking Festival Boulder, and Twixter Productions. Sam also played drums in Red vs. Black and crept closer to an undergraduate degree at Metro State College.

An Evening With Club Sensationzzz: The Talk Show ends next Friday, August 29 at the Bovine Metropolis ($10 / 10:15 p.m.). A total of 13 people have attended the last two shows and that is simply a shame. The talk show format is a perfect vehicle for the collaborative, inventive talents of Galloway Allbright and Sam, aka Club Sensationzzz. Their monologues, ad hoc "green screen" visuals delivered via colored marker on poster board, and guest interviews are always entertaining, and often brilliant.

This writer remains baffled by the insistence/refusal of many theater owners to not promote their product, i.e., their extended-run improv and sketch comedy shows. Marketing 101 says following the creation of any product the entrepreneur must then price it, place it in the marketplace, and, finally and most importantly, promote it. Promotion, the hard part, seems to be lost on the owners and the performers who also, clearly, have a stake in their success (they are all apparently too right-brained). "Build it and they will come" isn't a sound business model.

Regardless, bring a bunch of folks to see Club Sensationzzz next weekend. They never disappoint.

Sam and Galloway Allbright will rush from Iraq War, the Musical to the Bovine Metropolis to perform as Club Sensationzzz at 10:15 p.m. ($10). Sam will not divulge who their "very special guest" is, but "he's awesome."

Sam fills in at BMX

Sam was hastily recruited by Matt Fogel to fill in as a member of the Generals for tonight's BMX at the Bovine Metropolis. Sam said the big crowd was a rowdy mess, particularly the group of "drunken bachelorettes."

Pressing news concerning Sam

"Congratulations! There are few periodicals more prestigious than the Elbert County News," says Rick Rothenberg, local media expert (the article ran today). The lovely EC News reporter did get one item wrong: Sam's peers at the Bovine Metropolis Theater named him the Sketch Performer of 2007, and not "top improvisational comedian" (there was no such award).

7 hours of Saturday morning improv

After his Club Sensationzz's gig, Sam left the Bovine Metropolis at midnight for the Iraq War, the Musical! cast party, then returned to the 24 Hour Improv-a-thon to perform with the Bovine's Sanscript Players from 2 to 9 a.m. He's asked for a wake up call at 4 p.m. to prepare for Night 2 of "the Musical."

Club Sensationzz @ 24-Hour Improv-a-thon tonight

Cast members Sam and Galloway Allbright will rush from the opening night of Iraq War, the Musical! to perform two sets as Club Sensationzz at the 24 Improv-a-thon hosted by SanScript Players at the Bovine Metropolis Theater (10 p.m. and 11 ish: be flexible / $8). The “Thon” benefits Family Tree and runs from 6 p.m. Friday to 6 p.m. Saturday.

A Very Special Halloween

Don't know how we missed this one. A Very Special Halloween is a holiday film from the 2007 48 Hour Film Project (48HFP). Denver producer/director Will Kingston of BadScience Entertainment made the film at Base 2 Studios with members of the Bovine Metropolis Theater. It was originally screened in Denver at the Starz Filmcenter on August 8, 2007.

48HFP teams must base their films on one of 13 genres (ranging from buddy film to Sci-Fi) selected from a hat. Officials then randomly draw a character, prop and line of dialogue that each team must incorporate into their film. Assignments are made on a Friday night and film teams must write, shoot, edit and score a movie in the next 48 hours. A typical running time is between four and seven minutes.

The BadScience team was given the following required film elements:

• genre: holiday
• character: Kenny or Kendra Colter, tattoo artist
• prop: a pie
• line of dialogue: "I bet you think you're clever, huh?"

The original Club Sensationzzz (Sam, Galloway Allbright; Ryan Mattingly) and Convention? cast members, Kathleen Boland and Keith Rains, appear in the film.
